I am finally getting around to posting this picture. My sister-in-law lives just north of Spokane and called me one day and asked if I wanted to see Jimmy Clews. He was being brought to Spokane by the local turning club and the Spokane Woodcraft store. I do apologize to the club for nor being able to remember there name. Seeing as construction season was winding down I booked a flight. we were able to get in and be right there in the front row.

What can I say! It was GREAT. Jimmy was very friendly and down to earth. He is a fabulous instructor, He demoed a embellished box, a long stem goblet that he did unsupported, with just 1/4" bowl gouge and large platter. Most of his message was about proper tool control and how to present the tool to the wood. He answered everyones questions and took time to explain the different thing he was doing, or just as important NOT doing.

Needles to say I had a great day, and I spent the next 3 days doing nothing but turning on my sister-in-laws new JET 1640 and talking about turning with her and watching turning videos.
I hope to Vegas and take some classes next winter. I think it will be worth the money.
Anyone that has taken his classes please let me know what you thought.

That's really cool. But how do you guys keep from falling off the wall? Every time I try that I end up flat on my butt.

A memory to be held and a photo to be hanged in the workshop! (As a JimmyC fan, I may try photoshopping my face in it as well)

It was good meeting you, Duff, and we are glad that you had a good time. The name of our club is Inland Northwest Woodturners. We hope that your sister-in-law joins us and that you stop in on your next visit to Spokane.

Jimmy has a charm to him, that's for sure. Our local clubs had a blast with him for 3 days earlier in the year.

I remember first seeing him do the unsupported goblet at the NC Symposium in 2009...I held my breath. Halfway done, it started wobbling ... ALOT...and speed didn't help it. He made it to the end in one piece, and as you said, spent good amount of time on tool control, the part that many demonstrators I've seen don't give enough time/attention to.

I'd love a trip to his Vegas studio for a week...but don't have any desire to get near casinos...I may be weak.

Nice gloat... I've taken the three day course at Jimmy's house, and I had a blast. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested.

I'd love to see him demo sometime... I really didn't get to see him turn much at the course. He had to watch me turn(I can only imagine how painful that must have been for him).

I heard Jimmy demoed at our club the month before I joined :-( Hope he comes back soon!
