This single segment video demonstrates the way I use my traditional grind gouges:

When I posted the segment about using traditional grind gouges on the outside of a bowl I intended to follow up with a segment on using them on the inside. I was not completely happy with any of the sessions I recorded, however, so I have spliced together different parts of a few sessions to make this video:

What angle do you grind the bevel on your traditional grind gouges?

Great video Bob. Lots of good info. I use the conventional gouge for my final cuts inside the bowl. I have them sharpened and ready for the final cuts. Most times it takes out 90% or better of the tear out.

Thanks.

Skott, my traditional grind gouges are ground at ~45 degrees.

Those videos were very helpful to me. I have watched quite a few turning DVDs and this was by far the best demonstration of cutting theory I have seen. As a relative newbie quite enlightening. Thanks.

I was trying to articulate how to respond and Skott pretty much nailed it. So I shall simply quote him and say "ditto."
