I have a deep bowl that I wanted to remove the tenon using my vacuum system with a Hold-Fast chuck. It turned out the bowl was too deep for the chucks so I had to use the old jam chuck method or make a longer chuck.

Does anyone know of a headstock extension made for this type of application?

Packard carries 3" spindle extenders.

Holdfast sells aluminium extensions for this purpose. Try packard or craft supply.

I have a new 1 1/4 by 8 spindle extender that appears to be the same one linked to at Packwood. I no longer have a use for it and would make you a deal on it. PM me if interested.

I suggest that you make sure any extension you acquire has a hole through the center.

Another route is to build a longer vacuum chuck. They are really easy and inexpensive to make. The biggest one I ever built was made of PVC pipe and it is 12" diameter by 16" long.

I built one out of PVC. I made a mount for it, epoxied a 1 x 8 nut in the mount then epoxied on a 8" X 10" long piece of PVC to the mount.
