I'm posting this because I know I'm not the only one here who has a Craftsman Professional Model 22401 Bandsaw. Several of you bought one when I bought mine and others have bought them since then. BTW -- Those with Rikon band saws the parts list for your saws is the same as the Craftsman. As I reported in the post http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=151887 my motor went out. The run capacitor on the motor burned up.

After finding out that all Sears Service could do for me was replace the motor/capacitor unit at $197 for the part and $197 for the labor. A brand new saw would only be $503.99 today/was $459.99 last week.

I was left with only one possibility, find a capacitor that would fit. No, it is not a standard size that most electrical supply places stock. While I appreciate all those who helped I found one thanks to great customer service by John Buchanan at Eurton Electric Co. Inc. For those who own a Craftsman Model 22401 or Rikon band saw you might like to know it is Part No. 3058 - Capacitor - CBB60-D150 - 50uf - 450VA for $25 including shipping.

I'm excited to say that the band saw is now running great. Problem solved for $25 instead of $400.:D

I have the 12" version of that saw. Thanks for the warning about Sears parts. Should I ever have motor problems, I won't waste time with Sears.

Yeah, I went through that with my 1st little drill press, a little 8" sears drill press.
Couldn't get the cap through sears. just the motor.
I did find though, that the parts for my delta 17-900 drill press are a good bit cheaper through sears than from delta, or the other delta parts companies on line.

Ed, Thanks for the information. I don't have any "motor shops" close to me and I didn't want to travel all over the place finding one with the right part. I posted this to help prevent others from having to do that as well.

Don,

I own the same saw. I think we bought ours around the same time and I'm glad you posted this. I will copy this post and put in my binder w/manuals. While Sears has their name on a good saw they didn't build, their parts department and public relations after the sale are far from being what one would call good.

Denny, I hope your capacitor holds out, but am glad that someone may benefit from my misfortune. Yes, the saw is a good one for the price, but Sears Parts and Service are not what the company claims them to be. I was also miffed at the fact that I never got a reply from Rikon.
