Black Friday presented a few opportunities for tool purchases that I decided not to pass up. I'm not sure if they're worthy of a gloat, but I'm having fun.

So, last month I picked up a Jet 18", 3HP bandsaw (JWBS-18QT-3) for $1,600 (shipped):

I just placed an order for Delta's new 18" spinner (18-900L) with 6" quill travel for $829:

Tomorrow I will be placing an order for Jet's 16x42, 1-1/2HP variable speed wood lathe (JWL-1642EVS) and 9x20, 3/4HP variable speed metal lathe (BD-920W) with stand for $2900:

And to make sure I have more toys to add to the lathes when they arrive, I ordered these (among other things) a few days ago:

During actual Black Friday shopping (after waiting in line outside Best Buy with Amy from 8pm to 5am and not getting what she came for... her idea, NOT mine!), I stopped by Sears while she was shopping elsewhere in the mall.

I found A Worksharp WS3000 for $180, a WS2000 for $108, and a Drill Doctor 750X for $130 (all +$25 tax):

Overall, not a bad haul for the season. I'm sure I'll pick up more toys as stuff comes in and I realize what I'm missing, but it's enough to keep me busy for a few days. :D

Your guess is as good as mine, but nothing makes you find a place for something as constantly tripping over the shipping box (or crate, in this instance, I suppose).

Dan, Gee you make us all feel a little bit left out in the cold with all the fun toys you are getting!! Is a brand new top of the line fully decked out shop next on the list? You can't expect all those nice new tools to sit in an old shop can you!!

I need to make some more stuff to sell, I need a tool fix too,

Jeff

Don't know what amazed me more, the number of tools or spending 9 hours waiting in line. I was thinking there is no way I would ever spend that amount of time waiting in line. But on second thought, that comes out to more than 600 dollars per hour. Next year I'm taking my wife to Best Buy!:D

I showed my wife what you are getting for Christmas, she said " good for him, you just keep using your 1947 lathe" She wants to know what your Amy got for Christmas?
Get it while you can!!

Harry,

I thought the BD-920W was simply the 920N with the stand as one package... am I wrong on that?

Dennis, It was all purchased by me, for me... but Amy is getting a blanket with a picture of her and the munckin woven into it, a 32GB iPad with WiFi and 3GS, and assorted little trinkets. She bought me a Craftsman toolbox (early) so I can keep all of my hand tools in one spot for a change.

Dan, I know you've been talking about these things (some of them reeeeaaaaallllllyyyyyy early in the morning), but I din't think you'd pull the trigger on ALL of them at once. Have fun setting 'em all up. I'll help when/if I can. Setting up shop will be a blast. You are a lucky dog. ;) Hey, and Amy deserves some props here...

The two lathes showed up last night... I was expecting the drill press instead, and it didn't show up :-/ With help from a neighbor and his handcart, they ended up in the workshop an hour or so later. The wood lathe, although twice the size, was easier to move by far as I could take everything off, including the headstock. The metal lathe was a bit more of a pain. I'm hoping the drill press will be as "easy" to move as the wood lathe.

And I still have no idea where it's all going to go, and my pathway in (and to) the workshop is now filled with tool parts. I took off a few days early next week in the hopes I can get some of this sorted out.

EDIT: I also added these bad boys to my collection while they were 50% off (now sold out), the Robert Sorby 6-pc Turning Tool Set:
http://images.rockler.com/rockler/images/34582-01-500.jpg

I was surprised at the packaging, though, for a $300 set... a cardboard box. A nice cardboard box, but cardboard, nonetheless. Even the $70 set I showed earlier from PSI came in a nice wooden case. Go figure...

Heck with that haul you might as well just build a new shop. I have been looking at that DP----specs are very nice.

The small set of lathe tools I ordered from PSI arrived with a heavily warped (and lightly scratched) box, and several of the pen kits (the ink cartridges) arrived bent all to you know where. So I called and spoke with a very nice woman who promised to send me a pack of cartridges and a new box for the tools. A few days later a box arrived, as promised... with 5 new ink cartridges and a complete set of replacement tools. I just needed the box, but they sent me the whole shebang... nice :)

Oh, and the drill press came in today, so I now have a large group of heavy metal components scattered all over the basement floor awaiting assembly. Now if I can just find the energy to assemble them after moving so much weight!
