Wife wanted to get me the Sojberg, but it wasn't what I really wanted. Not having the time to build, I'm going to pick up one of the Bally Block 84x24 3" thick slabs and a Veritas twin screw for the tail vise. Not sure about the front vise yet.

Couple of questions with this:
1) Should I cut in and put end caps on both ends?
2) Do I only need to plane off the finish on the edge to put on the front skirt?
3) Was going with with hickory for the base.
4) How bad is it to put in square bench dogs? With the twin screw, it looks like a lot of drilling and chopping.
5) Anyone use the lee valley bench bolts?

Thanks for any tips. This sounds like the fastest I can have something close to what I want.
