View Full Version : Elm bowl was a challenge

This elm bowl was turned from some dried worthless wood a friend salvaged from being torched. I had to cut away some split and cracked areas to get a clear blank. As I turned it the edge of the darker rings seemed to deteriorate as if they might have been rotten or spalted. I did finish the bowl but had some uneven areas with the soft rings. The knot held with the assistance of some CA. 5.5" dia 3.5" high .125 thick

Oh boy!!! John, that reminds me of some Redwood I just turned. You did good!! Dimensions and finish if you wouldn't mind?

Well, it was worth the effort!! Really nice work on that difficult transition at the inside bottom.

John you did well on this one. I like turning elm but if it is green. I tried some old firewood pile elm and it was a pain.

Beautiful turning and nice save from the fire. I agree on the inside bottom curve - very nice form and finish.
