It is pouring down rain here this morning, so I wimp'd out and did not head to my treestand:o Instead, I broke in the Vacuum chuck and new threaded tailstock and started finishing some of the Cherry bowls I have been working on.

9 x 1.5 x 1/4
Laquer rubbed in followed by a wax

Ken, your game call background really has added finishing to your list of accomplishments!! Really nice!

Thanks, but sanding a call sure is alot easier then a bowl haha!

Nice bowl! And, I'm loving my vacuum set up too!

I agree, this thing works like a champ. Ive even gotten good at centering the bowl for sanding once the tenon is removed:D

I think I will be ordering a power sander...my hands are killing me!

Ken,

I really like the finish, cherry is one of my favorites. I think it will look really nice when it darkens as well.

Its always a tough decision between treestand and lathe. Treestand has been winning lately for me.

Micheal, I keep an eye out the back door on days like this. The rain has stopped, and 2 Does fed through about an hour ago. This evening should be a great hunt!

Thanks Baxter.

One more done. These are the first few bowls ive turned, so the design may leave alot to be desired from a shape stand point, but you got to start somewhere:D

Same finish as above

That's a really nice finish. Can you detail the steps involved?

That is some pretty stuff there, Ken! Not a bad way to use up a rainy morning, even if it did not have antlers! :D;)

Scott, very basic. sand from 80 to 400, apply deft brushing laquer, rub in with lathe running wait till its dry then wax or buff. The friction from teh rub in dries the laquer almost immediatley

Not having turned any actually functionally useful bowls, cannot comment much on the design but the color and finish are both gorgeous. No dye? Does not resemble the cherry I have used in the past.

Power company cut it down for me last year, and I cut it into slabs immediatley and sealed it. Everything from that tree looks just like this....and will darken ofcourse.
