I am going to be building a Rockler plan for a childrens buckboard wagon. What wood choice is best?
I was leaning towars white oak. Strong, weather resistant, but it is rather heavy. Could there be a better suitable wood. Or maybe combination of different types.

Todd, Your location and the price of different woods in your area might be a determining factor.

Perhaps ash would be a good choice. It very hard to dent ash. It can take the beating of children playing. Remember it's a very common wood used for baseball bats. Ash also has a rugged open grain look to it.

I agree that ash maight be a better choice unless you use quarter-sawn white or red oak. Plain sawn oak tends to be brittle and splinters easily.
