When using your circular saw, especially with a guide, do you put the blade towards the guide, or the motor? Is there a "correct" way?

I run it so that the bulk of the saw stays on the larger portion of the material and not the piece being "cut off".

That was the other way I was going to phrase my question, thanks!

I do it the opposite way: the skinny side of the saw plate is on the good stuff, and the big side is on the waste.

I try and keep the bulk of the side on whatever side isn't going to fall of if both sides aren't fully supported. If nothing is going to move I normally put the skinny side toward the guide for no reason other then the offset for the guide on that side(1-1/4") is much easier to work with then the one on the other side(3 something inches).
