Question on tool rest length

For those who do alot of finials ornaments and other "smaller" items, what length of toolrest do you find most useful?

I am getting ready to order a new robust rest and I am having difficulty with the length. I have a few earrings and ornaments/birdhouses to get completed before the end of december.:eek:

I have a 6" rest that seems to work great for most small items--small ornaments, pens, bottle stoppers etc.

Yup...6" is good. I use a 4" for pens, just because I turn between the centers and an 8" for pepper mills and long HF's.

I use the 4" comfort rest for finials.
