Thought some of you folks might be interested in how I have my sander setup for collecting the dust. IMO the standard hose connection in the back of the unit does a poor job.
You do have to cut away a portion of the hood bottom flange in order to get the hood close to the belt and be able to clamp it to the table.
Works great. You can see there's hardly any dust in front of the belt but plenty in the back.

I like this idea. I'm going to remember this one for when I finally find a good used one on CL. Thanks for sharing your setup!

Good call.

I've got, and thoroughly enjoy, the EB4424, but ... it gets a solid "B+" for dust collection.

I've been in "Eh, don't worry about it" mode, but ... a fixed-mount hood makes a lot of sense !

I have been thinking of doing something similar with a 4x10 to 4" HVAC transition. I agree, the shop vac connection isn't the best...

I'm curious if you have anything hooked up to the original dust port. While barely adequate, it does pull sawdust from below the belt where sawdust builds up. If not, do you have any trouble with sawdust under the belt/spindle?

Thanks for the idea and picture.

I like the "big gulp" idea. Probably works better than my reduced hoses (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=138848&d=1263841238). I may have to re-visit this.

I don't know, the Big Gulp doesn't look like directs airflow to where it's most needed.

No I don't. The flange partially covers the port. So far no trouble under the belt.

Well for me it does direct the airflow where it's most needed -away from my lungs.
No comparison to the original setup -way better.
