Curly maple in the lid, dyed with Watco Medium Walnut; walnut box. Everything sealed with shellac by padding, then buffed with 3M Gold abrasive pads for a smooth satin finish:

Al,
Very nice, how is the maple held in the walnut frame?

The top down view gives the top an abstract Japanese look. Nice choice of woods.

Thanks Gary - a great way to put - the wow factor...

Al,

Thanks, Mark. The maple panel is held in place by a 1/8-inch groove in the sides of the panel, and a groove on the sides of the box.

Thanks, Douglas.

A mountain range, or grass swaying in the wind, or a bamboo forest, or...:)

I am going back to the shop in a few minutes, to make another little box.:D

oh, that is beautiful. and my favorite part is how the joints are darker. I've read so many tips on how to avoid having the end grain soak up the finish and darken, but I really like the look of it on your box.

So pretty! so, I'll send you my address, ok? Wrap it well :)

Thanks, Jaze! I agree with you - I always leave finger joints and though dovetails absorb all the finish they want and need, especially with dark woods such as black walnut. It has a way of saying "...these are my fingers..." :)

What type of wrap do you prefer? :D ;) Happy Thanksgiving!!!
