Looking for some pictures of a 3520B Knockout Rod Assembly.

I want to make one / have one made for my lathe.

If someone has one for sale, that would be nice also.

Does anyone make an aftermarket knockout rod like the one for th 3520B?

Thanks
Steve:)

Easy way is just to go buy a 3/8" or 1/2" brass rod long enough to reach through the headstock. Turn a handle for it and glue it on. Done.

The stock one is a 3/8" steel rod with a brass tip and a large steel handle that can move about a 1-1/2" to act as a momentum hammer. But just sliding the brass rod would work too.

Thanks . . .

So does the outer sleeve slide?

Steve:)

Yup, it is a slide hammer. But you really shouldn't ever need to hit anything that hard so you don't have to make yours a hammer if you don't want to.

But if you do.... Here is a photo of the inside of the handle.

OK, I'll admit it . . . I still can't get a handle on how it works . . .

What moves & what doesn't?

Do you hold the shaft and slide a weight . . .?

Steve

Yup, the large handle can slide over the bar and acts as a self contained hammer.

Looking at the picture the large "handle" at the top is hollow. The "anvil" on the left of the shaft slips into the handle and the "H-ring" slides in just until the two set screws can be screwed in between the arms. Once the set screws are tight the anvil can move 1-1/2" inside the handle.

You slide the bar through the hole in the headstock until the tip hits whatever you are trying to remove from the spindle; quickly slide the handle back and forth and the handle hammers on the anvil knocking the bar forward and the "object" out of the spindle.

Steven/Greg,
I like my friends PM knockout rod, but my Jet's knockout tool is just a steel rod with a ball on the back. Instead of the nice slide hammer, I simply have to slide the rod back and push it forward with a tap to knock out my MT-2 stuff. It's simple and cheap.

Yes, but it is not nearly as cool . . .

Yes, exactly. Just get a 3/8 - 1/2" brass rod and you have what you "need". Now if you want to fancy it up a bit that is another story. A sliding hammer made out of your favorite hard-hard-wood would be fun.
