I bought an older 14" jet band saw with a riser block. I have a wide-ish blade, although it isn't nearly wide enough for resawing. I have just used is to slice 4/4 boards in half to get 2 - 1/4" boards.

I get alot of twist and with the current blade, and need something for resaw. I also need to replace my blocks as they aren't as flat and no matter how much i adjust them they don't seem to prevent any twisting... although I know that the blade is a root cause of the problem.

Any suggestions for a good resaw blade for a saw like this?

Thanks,
Derek

Is a 1/2" thick enough? I was doing some rereading around and saw recommendations for 5/8 and 3/4" blades for other 14" bandsaws. Are those blades too thick for my Jet?

The Woodslicer is a great resaw blade for 14" "cast clones". Be aware that the same band material is available from Iturra and from Spectrum Supply (the latter is called the Kerfmaster) for significantly less and Spectrum offers more widths and gauges. There is more info about these hardned spring steel blades in this thread: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=149862&highlight=bandsaw

The consensus seems to be that cast iron 14" saws won't tension blades wider than 1/2" adequately, due to frame flexibility and/or inadequate spring. A good quality 1/2" band will resaw fine.

That's one place where Old Uncle Norm ... really didn't do us any favors

[What was his resaw machine running ? 2" ? 3" ??]

1/2" Woodslicer, or Timberwolf. I went with TW for all my blades.

Another thing to consider, stock springs with riser blocks tend to be insufficient for keeping decent tension on the blade. Look into a Cobra Coil as well...

+1 on the woodslicer. I had bad luck with Timberwolf blades (3 different blades). YMMV
