Yikes I have been pretty slow and two other people have turned down this Job and it has ended up in my Lap, the Job is 4 sections of glass that will make a 48 inch x 108 inch confrence table with a tread design,

if a 6 X 6 Glass is around 65.00 this will put this table at around $7000

Does that sound right? it will take me 3 days to complete prep and ship

any commemts or should I pass

Not knowing what equipment you have or whether you have experience on
this type of job it's hard to say. Is it possible to do a frosted vinyl cut on
the reverse side?

Aligning 4 sheets that size may be challenging, if the glass is registered
to each other to start with. (it may not be exact) if you damage a piece will
you be able to get an exact match? If your etching registration is a bit off
it will show up as the pieces fit to gether. The edges may not line up.

Remember glass probably will not be the same thickness all the way
across so that will have to be addressed on how you put them together
so there isn't a "stepping" were the pieces meet.

Why did 2 people turn it down already, that may give you a bit of insight
on the challenges and/or complications they have had with the client in the
past.

It seems sand etching may be whats needed.

I take on many jobs that I sometimes wonder "what the heck do I get myself involved in now?"

This job would make me a bit nervous and I would make sure I did all
my homework before agreeing to it.

Good Luck!

If you take it make sure you post an image, that will be neat to see the final
product!

Marty

You say the table is 48x108, but how big are the glass panels... are they really 24x54 each?

This would be a job for an experienced glass shop. I don't know how much glass you have done but it is not a starter project, that is for sure. The panels are custom cut - even if they are not tempered you would be talking about a lot of money to replace one if anything went wrong. I prefer to take projects where the downside risk is a my time and a few dollars of materials. Lasered glass does not really look as attractive as sandcarved glass and they may be expecting the sandcarved look. You probably made the right decision to pass; even if you would like the work you don't want to end up owing them money.

Here are some quick images I took with my phone ( sorry, not the greatest) .

This definitely took some time to engrave ( only had 1 day to finish job!). We ended up using our "onsite sandblaster" for the big pieces ( really heavy !!) and the rest we blasted in our blast room. It took a long time to line up everything before we sandblasted ( we used 8 mil resist) . Let me know if you have questions.

Thanks Dean for helping out.:)

Happy Holidays:D

Stuff like this is why I am glad I am a tech and not an owner/operator.
I could NEVER design anything this cool.
If I did, it would probably take me at least 20x longer.

GREAT JOB !
