View Full Version : Good machines for cleaning spots on rugs, upholstery?

I'd like to have a machine to do occasional cleaning of spots on rugs and upholstery. The spots are mainly from plain dirt or coffee spills. Are any of the various types of steam cleaners or dry powder cleaning machines that I could get at Kmart or Sears worth having?

The thought of a system that uses dry powders gives me zero confidence that it would work. I don't really know what kind of stains a steam cleaner cleans well. Does it really clean them? Or just dissolve them into the bottom of the rug or fabric? Do machines that "shampoo" do any better than I could with a spray bottle of rug cleaner?
