Just took delivery of my Monster art. arm hollowing tool. Question:do I get the holding block advertised in CS and Packard to sharpen the hss cutting bits? How do you guys do it? Want to get started right so I dont have to unlearn a bunch of stuff. Thanks a bunch, Max

I just set my grinder platform to the profile and hold the cutter with my fingers and make a lite cut around the profile, while pivoting it against my fore-finger. Works great. You can buy additional cutters cheap at Enco.

Yup------that's the same way I do it. I even went as far as using a good 120 grit wheel.

I just use the Wolverine platform - takes finger tip pressure to rotate the cutter.

Congrats on the Monster!!! Max, PM me with your email and I will send you the link for the Enco cutter stock. Randy provided it to me.

See all above for the same way I do it...using the tool rest back and forth.... Mr Keeton...I could use that supplier as well :D

Harvey, I set the angle and then use a vicegrips laying flat. Pivot with 1 finger pressure AWAY from the wheel and turn with other hand. I like that better than using my fingers, which I've done a time or 2.
my .02

BTW - re cutters...HF has them cheap. They're locked in the glass case so you wont see them on the open shelves.

I just hold the cutter on the grinder tool rest. Keeps your fingernails trimmed at the same time.

I just received some replacement cutters from Grizzly. They have a shipping rate that is based on your total purchase amount. I needed some veneer and was able to ship 5 cutters in the same shipping bracket.

And to answer the original question, fingers and the grinding wheel.

Congrats on the monster. I just like the others use my wolverine set to the profile of the cutter and give it a go. Works just fine.

The Enco links are - http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PARTPG=INSRAR2&PMAKA=383-5312&PMPXNO=939775 and http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PARTPG=INSRAR2&PMAKA=383-5316&PMPXNO=939967

I haven't checked HF, but the cost at Enco is about $.91 ea. for the 3/16" and $1.10 ea. for the 1/4". Of course, there is some shipping.

HF sells/sold them in a box with 4 different sizes, 1 each. I think I paid ~ 4.00 for the box. No single selections when I checked.

Max - congrats on your new system - you are going to love it!

Another vote for just using the grinder platform!

Many thanks to everyone for your input. Not only did I save the 20 bucks on the holder, but according to Wally, I wont be needing a fingernail file either. Thanks again, Max
