I wonder if 6 knives means 2 12" knives in 3 slots?

I would say that machine would be for an advanced hobbyist. Also, check out the gaurd>

Back in the day when we still had 36" trees!

But, wow. That's amazing.

So is this the same 'Porter' of Porter/Cable? Seems like it must be.

If it means is six separate slots for six 24" knives, then that many knives is something I've never seen in a jointer; three slots with two 12" knives each slot seems an odd idea, too.

I might get a 16" jointer but I'd probably pass on a 24" one.

Industrial level machines often have six knives.

Johnny,

Is that common with European jointers? I guess I should have said I've never seen a 6-knife American machine, not that they don't exist, though; my Northfield had three knives, an a lot of new machines have four, but of all the heavy-duty domestic jointers I've seen or read about, none had six knives that I was aware of (or maybe they did, and I just didn't read the spec sheet carefully enough.)

I like the idea, though; should be a smoother cut.

No it's from back in day where we had 36" table tops, and no wide belt sanders to flatten the glue up.

Assuming normal straight knives with gib screws, installing the blades could be an all day project.

Took me long enough to do a three knife 8" jointer!

Workbench?!? heck throw a pillow and a blanket on there, and you could use it for a guest bed :) unplugged, of course...that could be nasty.

Well it's over the $100 per inch rule of thumb so I'll have to pass. Oh and I don't have any room left for a beast like that:D
