It is certainly evident why you love it. A beautiful piece of work. Where would a person find something like that?

Great form, really good finish.............fantastic wood! Did you say "planer elm?" Never heard of it, but would like to know more about it, where it grows, how it is to turn, and other info.

Let us know more............:)

Very nice looking Dennis. Tell us more about the original wood piece. The large amount of light and dark wood must have some story there.

Gorgeous wood! I don't think we have 'planer elm' around here, but I intend to find out if this piece is indicative of the usual look of the stuff.

That's a really nice turning. Love the detail in the bottom. Also laughing about no one knowing what "planer elm" is. I thought everyone knew that. It's elm that's "planer" than most other elm. Scheech!

Beautiful work. Great use of some gorgeous wood.

Planer elm is another common name for Water Elm, Planertree, etc. All names for Planera aquatica. Although related to the elms, it is in a separate genus. The wood is spectacular if you can get a piece with heart wood. My impression is that the wood doesn't move as much as the true elms.
You find the trees in wet areas. We were lucky enough to have a good friend with access to some trees.

Nice work on a beautiful chunk of wood. Living in the desert, I don't see that. We have the chinese elm, which the sapwood looks very yellowish.
I also really like the form and finish of this piece! Keep em coming.
