Today I found some nice "Flame Box Elder" at the side of the road. It was there to be picked up and taken to the mulch pile. I thought "NOT". When I got off work I stopped by and loaded my truck down and then a boy walked out from the house and asked me if I wanted more of it? He hasn't cut half the tree down yet but he said he would have it down tomorrow if I wanted it. I called someone from my local woodturners club and he is suppose to meet me tomorrow after work to get him a truck load. It's going to make some great bowls, pens, x-mas ornaments, etc...(At least it will when my shop is finished) What do you think?

Great wood haul. It should prove to make many beautiful turnings. Get the end grain sealed on that stuff. Boxelder will start to check as it hits the ground in my experience.

Awesome find Donny! I was hoping you'd be up and turning by now, but it sounds like you're moving in the right direction. If you need anything, holler out!

. Well, my shop is built but I still have no lights or elec. I hope to have a friend help me work on that this weekend. I had hoped to be up and running by Thanksgiving but it looks like mid Dec."I Hope".
. Most likely I will have alot more of this box elder than I will need and will probally offer some of it to my fellow creekers soon. I will let you know and if interested I will send some out. Just let me know.

By the way this is less than a block from the box elder and I have permission to get it too. Just trying to figure out how to get it off the tree. It's over 2ft tall and 3 plus ft. wide and sticks out over a ft. from the tree. Suggestions???????? It is OAK..

The tree was cut, but the owner didn't have a saw big enough for the trunk. It was cut about 2 weeks ago. The knot is about 6 ft off the ground.I would need a 36" saw for this tree. It's HUGE...

Box Elder looks great. Should make some wonderful stuff! That oak burl looks good too! Is the tree coming down or are you just cutting off the burl?

Man, the wood gods are smiling upon you! The box elder alone is a great find, but that burly oak is just too much. I hate to say it to a guy that's still waiting on electric for his shop, but you suck!:D

Hey, load up Belinda and send her up this way with some of that. Be selfish of you to keep it all to yourself...of course, I wouldn't blame you!

Who in their right mind would give away any beautiful Oak burl? I mean, that would be crazy. That would be insane. You'd have to have a screw loose...a loon! Oh, that's right, I gave a bunch to Tony...Turn any of that yet, Tony?
