It is the 12 inch saw, filed xcut, 13ppi. cherry handle, stainless steel back and nuts.

This thing is SWWEEEEETTTTT !!!!!

I have only made one cut, and you can certainly tell this is a quality saw. the thin saw plate has me a little cautious, but only because my only other hand saw experience is with the LV DT saw. This saw feels like it just wants to eat wood for lunch. I will have to learn to keep my hand a little lighter and let the saw do the work.

This first cut was in some elm, using one of my freshly made bench hooks...

I will buy a few other of Mark's offerings in the future.

Nice saw, John...Mark does some very nice work. And I like how he offers so many options for wood types, different materials for the backs and different saw screws.

Are the teeth filed in the traditional way or did he relax the rake at the toe and heel ends?

John,

The reason I asked is what he explains about how he files his saws.

http://www.badaxetoolworks.com/my-saw-filing-technique.html

Maybe he doesn't file ALL his saws this way, I'm not sure.

Traditional filing would be with the same rake angle the full length of the blade.

It really doesn't matter, your saw is cutting wonderfully. I was just curious.

We're certainly very lucky to live in the times of LN/LV/Wenzloff/Bad Axe to name a few. I've emailed and talked to Mark on several occasions, (and made about as many purchases) and I can say 2 things for certain:

1. He's a real stand-up guy; if you're saw smart, (I am not), he'll work with you to make the perfect saw for you, (filed to your liking w/o extra charge!). If you're not so saw smart, (smart like dumptruck!) he'll ask you what kind've woods and dimensions you usually work with and craft your saw accordingly.

2. His saws cut very well and look pretty bad axe while doing it. So that I can quickly tell what saw I'm grabbing, I opted for different styles of saw bling for x-cut and rip. Did I mention that these cut well, AND look awesome?

Glad to see in the last picture that it actually cuts wood. I was beginning to wonder where one would hang such art!
O, and how I do indeed love cherry handles!

Dan,

I'm sure she will really like it. Maybe she will let you use it from time to time, that is if you do the vacuuming once a week.:D

I think I will only get different saw nuts to distinguish the X-cut from a rip saw. I wasnt sure If I would like the cherry handle or not.... and I spent a week looking at pictures before I decided to go with the cherry handle ( who knew that decision would be so damn hard ? ) but I knew as soon as I unwrapped the paper it was good. I think handles should be lighter in color, and I guess this reminds me of the way my grandfather's old saws looked hanging in the barn when I was a small child. ( Wish I could get my hands on that lot of tools today )

The cherry and stainless make the saw look light and simple. I think I will use the black nuts for my rip saw, and everything else will stay identical.
