So I'm pretty new to woodturning but I would like a chuck to go on the lathe I have now. Does anyone know of any chucks that are decent that mount with 3/4" threads? I'm looking at trying calls so I need something for the mandrels etc. Thanks for any help.

Jeremy,

Your spindle should be 3/4 x? something. Once you have that information, you can easily look for a chuck that fits. Many of the higher end chucks come with an insert that you can replace if you get a bigger or different lathe at a later date. The Nova & Oneway lines should both have inserts to fit your lathe.

If you know the type of lathe, here is a list that will give you the threading:

Whichever chuck you decide to get, you definitely want jaws that close evenly at the same time with one key.

I recommend highly anything from here http://www.flinthillsduckworks.com/

Ive used his mandrels since day 1. The ENCO mandrels are too short for alot of calls.
