I have been busy the past few weeks, but not too busy to take advantage of an offer from a friend in Kingston, New York for a walnut log. It blew down several months ago on the edge of a wet area. So, I trucked out from Orleans, Cape Cod to Kingston, just over the Hudson River. It was a driving rainstorm for the first 1 1/2 hours, then clear sailing for a 5 hour drive out. 4 1/2 hours back..... all today. We hacked the 35' log up, and the owner decided to keep 10 feet near the butt for himself. I got over it quickly. I also took a couple trimmings from the wings of the stump as they were tipped up into the air asking to get a ride to the Cape. 8"-13" diameter.
Tired but happy,

Congrats, Fred!! Really hard to beat walnut - especially free walnut. Well, nine hours driving, $90 in gas......hmmmm.....still not bad!

Johnny, doesn't the story behind the wood oftentimes add real value? I coulda' bought the wood, only up to 8/4 probably and maybe seasoned, for upwards of $300 or so at least 2 hours from home. Or we could make an adventure out of it.
It's the LOML that has let me always choose the adventure.. :)
