How long do I need to wait after the last coat of Antique Oil to buff?

Thanks,

Dan

Until its dry. Ba dum ba. Depending on conditions usually a few days to a week.

Some people just rub in a coat or two of AO, let sit for a couple of minutes, then buff. Reportedly with no ill effects to the buffing wheels. I haven't tried it yet, but I will.

I am finding more and more reasons for going with WOP!!:D

This is a technique I've learned from Keith Burns. He calls it his 10 minute finish and has demo'd it at his club. The only thing Richard left out was that you wipe all of the excess oil off before buffing. I think that's an essential step to prevent gumming up your tripoli wheel. I've done it on some very dense woods and some soft box elder burl and had great results with both. The only exception is that I use Minwax tung oil finish instead of Antique oil.

With Antique oil or I guess any finish I use (Poly, Lacquer, Waterlox, etc.) I do wait about 2 to 3 weeks before buffing. I think the problem at least it was when I began turning was putting to much pressure on the piece to get that shine and it ruined the finish. I am in no hurry so I let it dry and then give it a go.

Ok, so anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 weeks. :)

I'll try to be patient.

Dan, rule of thumb for me is the sniff test. Hold it close to your nose and sniff. If you don't smell the finish it should buff just fine...Bill..

William I really like the sniff test and it makes cense if you can't smell it
it must be dry or the salvent would still be there to smell .Good thinking.
