I posted the sister of this bowl (from the same tree) a couple weeks back. Mr. Keller and I discussed the rim on that one, and I had the discussion in mind when I re-turned this from dry rough this weekend. This is a more elegant rim. With a flared rim, however, I'm thinking a larger foot would have helped balance the outer curve a bit. We'll see what the next one brings. Comments and criticisms are always welcome.

Ahhh, Cherry...my favorite turning wood. You did a nice job here and I really am drawn to the rim treatment.

Sean, great rim treatment, and beautiful form. Man, that cherry is tight grained!

I agree on a larger base, but then, I am a footed bowl type.

I think it's beautiful. I love the rim on this one, and I'm a fan of smallish feet, so this is right up my alley. Great photos as well. Dimensions?

Wow, gorgeous. I like feet (on bowls) but I think this looks great as it is. Gotta love that cherry.

Just for the sake of discussion, I probably should clarify that when I said "larger foot" what I meant was that next time I might make the base somewhat larger in diameter. I don't tend to favor literal feet very often.

" I meant was that next time I might make the base somewhat larger in diameter."

I don't think so. It's sweet just as is. That is one hella nice looking bowl!

very nice.... i like your foot on this bowl, a larger foot would tend to make your outside curve with less lift, more dog supper bowl

Sean, This bowl has everything a good bowl should have, size, style, great color and your photos are a perfect media to show the bowls character. The rim treatment is very nice, I love putting the right embellishment on a bowl that brings it all together, the base is just right I think, any larger and it would have taken away from how the curve ends in the shadow at the table.

Wonderful!

Sean,

Now that form on this bowl is just about the finest available... this one is a form that could be held out as the classic example of fine form. Rim treatment is so fitting and proportional.

Very smooth finish, kind of satin-like and it fits that bowl. I think even Leo would give you kudos for this one..............

Just a fine turning.........I like functional pieces........everyone knows immediately what they are for.

Beautiful bowl in all respects! That gentle flare at the rim will make it feel just right when its full and picked up with both hands. Very very nice!

Very very nice. I need to find a fellow creeker with access to big cherry, for a wood swap cause that is real nice. We don't have any big cherry around here.

Ah yes, the simple classic form in cherry, a bowl you could look at for 50 years and never get tired of it. Superb bowl, thanks for posting.

Great bowl Sean! I'm a huge fan of a recessed foot and in this case, it really gives some lift to a massive, useful bowl. Bravo sir!:D:D

I think it's wonderful. I too love the detailing on the rims of the last couple bowls you've posted. Very elegant.

The foot and rim appear balanced to me.

I really really like this bowl. It's exactly how I PICTURE a wooden bowl when I try to envision it. I think you nailed it, 100%. I'm saving this to my favorites so I can "borrow" it if/when I get to that level.
Thanks for sharing.
