Old Delta Uni-Saw What Year Is It?

I just bought this saw the other day for $25.00 and was trying to identify what year saw it is? The serial # on it is 35-4524. The motor is an original 1hp 1725 Rpm. The table top miter bar guilds do not have a T-slot so I know it’s before 1961 from the research I could find. The dust shoot door has louvers so that should date it as well. The serial # is on the back side/edge of the table top. There are no other markings on the saw except on the degree indicator scale that says it’s a delta made in Wisconsin. Does anyone know what year this may be?

Thanks Richard

Nope, don't know, but if you haven't already tried, I would check out OWWM.com. I would say, your best bet.

According to secret decoder ring over at OWWM.com, your saw is 1945 vintage.

Here's a breakdown of some of the years...

Year From - To
1941 13-0000 - 15-0000
1942 16-0000 - 21-6500
1943 21-6501 - 26-6900
1944 26-6901 - 33-6900
1945 33-6901 - 40-6600
1946 40-6601 - 49-5000
1947 49-5001 - 60-6000
1948 60-6001 - 74-6000
1949 74-6001 - 82-5500
1950 82-5501 - 91-5950
1951 91-5951 - 100-7044
1952 100-7045 - 105-4004

Oh by the way - good score on the saw. Twenty-five bucks is a hell of a steal! As we say at OWWM - you suck!

Tom I was looking on that site but could not find it. I guess I didn’t have that secret decoder ring you are talking about. Thanks for the info. Now I can sleep tonight. :)

Okay, so I was only partially right... Yes, the info was over on OWWM.com, but I guess you didn't have to go there to get it. :D

1945 Uni for $25!!! WOW! I believe that is The Gloat Par Excellance' of 2010!

The only possible downside would be if it is 3-phase! Congratulations Richard!

Chip it’s a single phase it says it right on the motor. I seen the add on CL and he wanted $200.00. I talked to him the first day he listed it. No picture and he didn’t know anything about it. It was up north one mile from my cottage and I told him the next time I was up I would maybe come look at it, but at that point it didn’t sound to promising. He said if he had time he would look at it and get more info. and maybe a picture. A few days later he sent a picture (via the photo above). He stated at this point that he got it free and was going to hook it up in his shop but changed his mind due to the fact it was 220 and didn’t want to mess with it and was going to take it to the dump but a friend told him he could get $200.00 for it. One week later I went up north and looked at it. It was sitting in a trailer with a tarp over it. In talking with him he said it came from a local shop that had 4 of them and was downsizing due to space and just wanted it gone. So he took it. He stated it was suppose to work but never saw it work. I told him that I would be taking a chance in buying it because I could not see it run and told him I would give him what he would get for scrap at the junk yard since he keep saying if he didn’t sell it would be going to the yard. So I told him they would give him about $25.00 at the yard and He stated that worked for him and that he would rather see someone use it and refurbish it than have it destroyed. The weird part about it he did not look to close at the motor because it has the wiring diagram right on the side off the motor for a 110 hook up the very reason he was going to take it and hook it up in his shop but I guess he didn’t realize it could be change to 110 from the current 220. Also since it was in a shop it has a newer magnetic switch and a square D disconnect. The base cabinet has a little rust but the top did not have any rust at all just kind of an age patina to it. I will be working on it in a few weeks and hooking up the wiring to see how well or if it runs (which I have a good feeling about) if so it should make a good dado saw. That was the reason I was looking for a second saw in the first place.

Then that Seals It Richard! MEGA G-L-O-A-T!!!

If your Smokin' Hot '45 has any issues, go to OWWM.org's old woodworking machines forum for any help you need. The saw looks very good for it's age. I cannot imagine it needing much more than bearing replacement at the worst. It will make a great dado saw!
