I've seen the BSX woodturning jackets at Woodcraft, and they look to be a fairly simple smock. Has anyone tried one, and if so, what did you think?

I also just found out that it's really a welding jacket marketed to woodturners. A cheaper price than Woodcraft can be found on Amazon.

TIA

Smocks are nice but I need something to help when a serious catch sends pieces flying. I'm thinking about a pair of brown pants.

Matt- I don't have any experience with that smock, but I have been using a smock from Craft Supply USA. I like that the top has velcro keeping the chips from going down my shirt. Good luck!!!!

David can you get those off the rack?

Matt,
I bought one and like it fine. Long sleeves might be a little warm in the summer but I should be plenty cool for at least 6 months. Neck is not elastic but snug enough that I have not got a lot of chips down it. It suits me.

I have a similar smock with elastic cuffs, but I think this one would work better. Does a fine job as long as your shop isn't too warm.

Hey Faust, Once upon a time during a bowl making extravaganza, I made some brown pants...the hard way :eek:

Hey Jim,
I hate when that happens!!
The original line was the punch line of a humorous story by a famous speaker as an ice breaker with his audience. He told the story of the French sea captain calling for his red jacket before going into battle with one Spanish frigate. When asked by his young servant why he wore that color in battle he answered "because if I am wounded the crew will not see blood and stop fighting". Soon the lookout announced the appearance of the opposing navy's ships from every compass direction and the captain called for his brown pants.

Matt,
I wasn't trying to distract attention from your original question and I apologize if I did. I have not tried the smock you mentioned because it is polyester. I find poly to be warm. I saw a turtle neck apron used by Bill Grumbine that kept the chips out of his neck and front but did not cover his arms. When I find it I will likely try that one.

No, figured it might be too hot for Florida, but I've been thinking hard about getting an AAW smock - they are short sleeved. Or maybe just a scrub top...

I bought one from AAW because of size. I like mine fine when I actually wear it.

I use the tan colored (:D) one from CSUSA. I can do the velcro neck as I choose and it has 3/4 sleeve's with velco. At 110 during the summer...it works well:p

I like the one from AAW. Fits me better.

I have the AAW smock and I really like it. I bought it a size larger than I thought that I would need, and I am glad that I did. I want it to keep the chips and dust out of my clothing, but I don't want it to feel snug over my clothes. This works out just fine.
