This bowl was turned last June up in Montana. A local guy that carves bears with a chainsaw gave me the elm. I coated it with Anchorseal, put it away to dry, finished it this week with a mixture of equal parts of tung oil, spar varnish, and turpentine. After applying multiple coats, and wiping dry after each coat, letting it dry for 24 hours before applying another coat, I let it cure for a week, then buffed it with the Beal Buffing System. The elm bowl is 12.5 inches wide by 5.25 inches high.

A very nice and substantial looking bowl! :D I turned some air dried elm for an end grain box and found it to be very hard and dense. :o

How was this elm to turn? You made it look great! :)

Very nice Glenn, I like the lip on it.

Thanks gentlemen. I turned it green, so I can't really say about how it turns when dry. I will say it is not as hard as pecan.
