#2 tube grease ???

The maintenance instructions for a Jet Drill Press say to "lubricate the gear and rack, table elevation mechanism, the splines (grooves) in the spindle and the teeth of the quill with a #2 tube grease".

What in the world is a #2 tube grease?

Probably a generic NLGI-2 grease, which is what just about anything you're likely to find at a hardware or auto parts store is.

And for these applications, just about anything that will keep them 'wet' would be fine. Spindle or motor bearings might be another story.
