View Full Version : Guessing Game: Why my jointer wouldn't work??

OK, lets see who figures this out first. I have noticed that recently my jointer has not been doing what it is suppose to do. It would start cutting the 1st couple inches of the wood and then it wouldn't cut anymore.

First off, I know how to square up a jointer. I made sure that the outfeed was perfectly level with the blades, and that the infeed was obvously lower than the blade height.

FYI, the table is perfectly flat, and there is no obstruction on the infeed or outfeed side of the jointer.

Now to see how smart you guys are, who can tell me why the jointer did not work. PS, I figured it out, and it was very simple.

I just want to see if this issue has dumbfounded anyone else

The wood was cupped?

You accidentally yanked the power cord out of the wall with your foot?

First thing I would have checked is if your tables were in the same plane. If the tail end of your outfeed table was higher I would expect you to cut a taper?

Nope, so far you guys are cold.

It has nothing to do with the wood or the power, and the table is aligned perfectly.

The wood was only a couple of inches long. So when you ran out of wood to cut the jointer stopped cutting.

Blades are installed backwards

Although you weren't exactly right, I will declare Gary the winner.

The blades, although installed correctly were so dull they would not cut wood. Funny, I was aligning the blade to the top of the outfeed table when I notices that the blades was basically rounded over piece of metal........no edge whatsoever.
