Usually you just match the socket. If the service is sufficient for the machine matching the plug with the socket you have is fine. If you are having the 220V moved or installed, the electrician can give you a matching plug.

David - I used a 620 series, twist lock, 20 amp plug and outlet for my Jet 1642, 2 hp lathe. Works great and I never worry about the plug coming loose from the wall.

I picked up mine at our local Menards but I am sure that any home improvement store would carry them.
