Hey folks. Last year my wife visited the local amish store and wanted me to make this nightstand for her.

After a few visits to the store and some funny looks from the clerk when I was inspecting the stand and writing down measurements I began working on it last winter. I pretty much have it all put together, Just need to put on the drawer fronts. The question I have regards the area surrounding the drawer pulls on the drawer front. It seems that they somehow "dished" out a round area around the pull. How would a fella do that? I thought a router bit, or maybe sandpaper? I'm at a loss.

Any thoughts?

I hope the link above works.

My guess is either pop the front on a lathe or find a cove cutting router bit that is the right size and raise it up into the front.

drill press with a rosette cutter or a plunge router with a bowl cutter. one of these might work, but you want to be careful how you do that if using a router.

A carving gouge and sandpaper?

With this title, I expected to see a giant nightstand with a Cadillac grill.

You can make the dished out area with a router bit http://www.eagleamerica.com/product/v130-2815
