Creeker Christmas Visit! Corvin and Company!

I Had the pleasure of Corvin Alstot and his father, Gary today. His father lives in Laguna....has for 20 years! Corvin came in from Texas. A surprise for me was that Corvin is both a woodworker and an architect too! A new ear to bounce design questions off of! Really nice guys...Corvin tried my spokeshave...you can be sure he will order one! The router is a little gem I bought new about 30 years ago.... runs like a clock!

I have had a lot of questions about the bench recently...It is the Ultimate American from Diefenbaugh....without the cabinets ...depending on the model prices start at around $800 and go upward ...check prices. But they are massive and German made from European Beach 5" to 6"thick!

I want to thank you for the warm and gracious tour of your house and shop. I had no idea how much furniture you had designed. Dad (Gary) and I were both so impressed. I knew that you had worked on a some cabinets and had been following the design of the bed, but I did not know there were dining tables and chairs, living room furniture, on and on. Wow!

As an architect it is rare to see the such a consistant architectural style run through both the furniture and the house. It makes the furniture and house that much stronger. I guess that is one reason, I like Greene and Greene, Mies van der Rohe, FLW, etc. I really enjoy the modern language you have used in your designs.

I find it very informative to see how others work, how they have their shops designed, etc. That was fun.

Thanks again for your hospitality, if you get to Houston I can show you my humble shop.

That was the most striking thing for me during my visit, too. Everything "works together" in an uncanny and comfortable way. And when you consider that's sometimes a lot harder to do in a very contemporary setting...the "wow" factor just escalates!

I'm glad you got to visit with Mark, Corvin. It's something you'll likely want to repeat! I know I do.
