I am starting to build a new shop very soon and would like to get a new table saw to replace my old craftsman contractor saw "A Shop warming Gift".

I was looking at:

What do you all have and do you like it?

+1 on the bad link but to answer your question, I have the Grizz G0661 and I really like it. It was in a good price range and is perfectly fine for what I do. There are better saws with appropriate prices but this is a good one. Proper tune up and good blades on a really good sawe makes life in the shop pleasant.

At $686, I think this Craftsman is a better saw, as well as a better deal.

If you really want to warm it up, get one of the new Unisaw's;)
Or a SawStop. Either one will really warm up your shop and make you smile!

How much do you plan on spending? General and Grizzly make great saws as does Powermatic and Delta. The Sawstop does have that finger saver though......;)

And beyond that, the SS is a great saw, IMHO nicer even than the UNI, brake or not. But the Grizz is a very nice saw too. Just about the only one from your list I've gone sour on is the Powermatic. I just like the Uni, SS and Grizzly more.

Matthew, I have the 691 and love it! (see the bottom entry in my signature below ;) ) Cuts like a dream, and I really have fallen for the riving knife. I'm glad I waited until I saved the cash to get this saw instead of getting a used saw without the RK. Others this year have gotten the new 1023RL series and have reported that it is also a great saw. Yes, there are some other really nice saws out there. If I had had the money, a Saw Stop, or the new General with the RK would have been high on my list. But for the money the 691 costs, it is really hard to beat. Jim.

If I was getting a new saw I'd do a Powermatic PM-2000.

Last (2) tools I've bought though have been used (from creekers) and I really like the value of that.

It seems to me a cabinet saw is one of the easier tools to buy used. People upgrading to other things I guess. There seems to routinely be pretty good deals on cabinet saws in my local craigslist.

If a riving knife isn't important then getting a used 3hp cabinet saw is the way to go. Any of these saws from any of the major manufacturer's are going to be great saws. The cabinet saw saw design hasn't changed hardly at all in 50 years. By the way I was one of the ones that broke down and bought the new 1023Rl. I really wanted the Riving knife, the blade shroud for the dust collection, and the serpentine belt drive. Otherwise this is the only new tool in my arsenal because you can find quality tools on the used market all of the time.
