What is the best way to get all the gunk off the chuck?
Blo, Tung oil, Ca, and all that get on it from finishing turnings while they are still on it.

A good soak in MS and a blow gun will do the job nicely!!

Option #2: leave it on, because it will get gunky again....:)

As long as it does not impair the function of the chuck, it's just looks... I put wax on mine. In my mind, it keeps it cleaner and less rusty.

I Think MS is mineral spirits. Anyway that is what I use and it works.

Mineral Spirits (MS), brass brush or green scrub pad and once dry I lube with graphite powder. I also wax the jaws so that they don't corrode and leave rings on green wood.

I take mine completely apart and get all the gunk and grim off them. They operate so much more smoothly after cleaning. Yes, they will get gunked up again, but them you just repeat the process. Like I used to ask my father when he would tell me to mop the floors in the restaurant....but Dad, they are just going to get dirty again in a few hours....I'd get that stare and those words.....just mop the floors like you are told.

Thanks for the advice.
The problem is that it is getting really hard to operate.
It is only the Nova Midi, and comes apart after removing the circlip.
So I will take it apart and soak it in MS.
