This is my second one, done with substantial help for a guy that really is a master of these. We have no idea what kind of wood it is, but it has some serious figure. 5.5" x 2.75" with 4 coats of Wipe on Poly. For the most part:o the walls are 1/4" thick...I can tell where I need improvement! C&C's welcome and needed;)

Jim, I have no idea what kind of wood that is, but you did a very nice job with it!! This form is more in the area of what Steve Schlumpf does, and perhaps his comments would be more meaningful on that. Otherwise, nice job!!

Way ahead of me Jim. Mine seem to come off the lathe in two pieces...
Nice job on #2

Way better than my 2nd, that's for sure.

I'm fairly certain the wood is Ficus. I got quite a bit of it a few years ago and the appearance nearly is identical.

Then again, it's an outstanding #20 piece too. I see nothing wrong with it ... and I like it. I think the grain is interesting. Wondering what a deeper finish would do...hate to experiment on that though, you really did a super job.

That is a great job. The side view and bottom view look good and the shape appears to be excellent. The only question I have is about the shot of the opening from above. It looks like the opening slopes inward, which to me, makes the wall look thicker than a 1/4". I would either open up the hole to match the rim to make hollowing easier or make the rim smaller to match the hole. I hope that makes sense. Overall, I have to agree with the other posts that this very well done for your #2.

Excellent job amigo! Good job on the SW pottery form there, and the wood has that desert look about it!

Jim - really nice work!

The profile shot shows me that the form is right on the money! I agree with Robert about the lip area. When viewed from the top - it looks way thicker than 1/4". If the edge of the lip ran in the same direction as the curve of the top of the form - it would have worked a little better in my opinion.

Everything considered - you did good! Looking forward to seeing #3!

Glad you managed to get some lessons! Saves a lot of head-banging!!! Hope you remembered to say Hi to Vaughn for me!

Beautiful work especially for a second effort... Actually, pretty amazing for a second effort. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with next.
