Interesting design. Not really complicated, but a bit involved.

Working on the pedestal legs now. Just a couple of pics

I decided to do a mock up of the base to test for stability. The original platform base design was changed over to a cross design. I made the mock up out of poplar and just banged it out. No real care to the little details. I wish I could do all my work like that, it was quick.

I did a half lap for the cross and then put triangle pcs in the center to fully stabilize it. Considering there is no glue in this it is pretty strong. I relieved cut the bottom by 1/4" so the legs will only touch the floor on the end of the board. The I did the test, I stood on it. I expected it to use up the 1/4" and touch the ground. But to my surprise it moved only about a 1/16". So, it is strong enough to hold the weight and it is only poplar, I will be making the real deal out of hard maple.

So I drilled my holes and put my 5/16" threaded rod through the legs and assembled the table upside down on my tablesaw. The fun part was getting this thing flipped over by myself and onto the floor without destroying something. It went well and I got it on the floor.

Giggled it around and put some off center weight on it to test it and it is stable (yeah!). Right now it is 5" too tall. The legs were planned for a platform and I did the cross which is 4" tall. I had some extra in there too.

Here is a shot. You can see the pocket screw holes, but the final pc won't show them. That's what mock ups are for, to figure things out. The corners of the table will be chamfered, maybe 3-5". There will be some sort of a routered edge treatment also.

OK. Woodworking part is finished. Table came out nice. No real complaints from me. She came by when it was just the mock up base and made a few final design decisions. We determined how much to clip the top and that the base needed a skirt. I was originally planing on using thicker wood for the legs, the mock up was poplar I had kicking around.

So here it is, just needing a finish. It will get a light brown color. Think of a natural red Oak floor. It will be similar to that color. Gonna use a conversion varnish to top coat,MLC Krystal.

OK, I delivered the table yesterday. Brought it there in pcs. Assembled it on site in front of the HO so she could see how to take it apart if necessary.

That came out very well. I like the unusual design of the base. It 'feels' very light and open.

Thats a really nice design Leo, you made it look right at home in the nook. The base and legs really stand out to me, very nice project.
