For those who followed my earlier thread on my PM-66 with the "weak" 5 hp motor or RPC.

Well..... two AX21 belts on perfectly aligned pulleys and this thing will cut through anything I can throw at it like a knife through butter!

Amazing what a difference new AX21 vs old 4L230 belts makes.

So the old belts were slipping?

Ken:

Good to hear you got things running.

I work with belt drive HVAC equipment daily - ' X ' belts work great on smaller drive sheaves - they run cooler and slip much less than regular belts. The cogs allow the belts to run on a much smaller radius efficiently.

As you said, ' perfectly aligned ' is a key to any drive running smoothly and efficiently. Way to go !

Thanks Guys,

Yes, a combination of poorly aligned pulleys, and older "fractional horsepower" 4L belts meant that my 5HP motor worked about as well as a 1-1/2 hp motor!

Those AX belts are a marvel! And for only about $7 each from McMaster Carr.

WTG Ken! I knew you (and your PM66) could do it!

Good job! Gald to hear all is well, not many things are as satisfying as fixing a vexing problem and doing it on the cheap as well!
