I'm having trouble finding a v belt pulley larger than 10". I would like to find something between 12 & 15" for a machine I'm building (a power hammer)? Need to be under $30 so die cast will have to do. A search at the normal places, Grainger, McMaster Carr, and other sites at Google hasn't turned up anything.

Anyone got a source?

Interesting:confused:, Tell us more!

May be a place that repairs air compressors can help you with a used one.

You might try a company called Bearings & Drives. There # is 1-800-333-5528.

Thanks, Tyler, I've been trying to think of where I can find a used one. The pulley on an air compressor might fill the bill. Those pulleys are also usually cast iron which will help. I will need to make a mandrel that will have the pulley and a flywheel (1/2" steel plate about 10"dia) as the drive wheel for the hammer so the cast iron will be a plus).

Is the power hammer for metal work. If so, I have a friend who would be interested in how this turns out. He's just in the process of setting up his own forge.

Yes, I'm altering the plans for a 20# hammer to ping the edges of my copper tile. I'm shooting for about a 5# machine but bilding in a lot of adjustability since I'm not at all sure what I need for strike force and cycles per minute. I got the original plans from Jerry Allen a blacksmith in Tennessee at 304-745-3886. He calls it Rusty.

If anyone is interested, I have decided to go to market will my copper tile. There will have several deep relief designs sized to fit into any tile job as accent pieces. I've secured 1 distributor locally and he thinks they will do very well so I need to speed up the process a little before I look for other sells outlets, therefore the power hammer.

Why not make an idler pulley setup with a pair of commonly available stepped pulleys? You'd have a lot of control over the speed that way.

I plan to use a spare 1/2 HP 1725 motor with a 4 step cone pulley driving a matching 4 step pulley on a Warner electric clutch/brake. The output of the clutch shaft will have the smallest 3/4" bore pulley I can find, probably 1.75" pd which will drive the flywheel/ pulley mandrel. If I can find at least a 12" pulley I'll have cycle rates of 168, 220, 287, & 377 strikes per minute. If I can go bigger than 12" I will have a few more and better combinations.

Perry, you didn't say what size shaft you have. Will one of these work?

I know you're all set but in case it does'nt work out stop at a small engine repair shop and look at an older merry tiller. They have a pretty good size pulley on the side plus it's a v-belt
