On a trip back to Wisconsin this guy and myself were going back into his home and he had this stove sitting on his front porch. It was a Round Oak E18. The E means it was made somewhere between 1904 and 1908. The 18 is the max length the wood can be to fit in the stove. Sitting on his porch like it was he had spray painted it solid black with Rustoleum to help preserve it. We both stop to look at it and he says he ought to sell the thing. When I asked him how much he said what he paid for it! Well it just so happens I knew the man he got it from and that it was just given to him.
To make a long story short I got it home and in the shop and finally got started on it. Burned off all the old paint and cleaned it up good before applying new paint. Ended up going to the metal in some spots. Originally, it had nickel trim but with the passing of time much of that had deteriorated so I repainted all the trim work to.
This stove should heat my shop nicely and warm my heart to. You see the guy I got it from is my brother and the gentleman he got it from was our dad who passed away in 05. Dad had it in his shop before he sold the farm and I am not so sure that I wasn't the last one to use before he moved to town. Dad never used it in town and I don't think my brother ever did, which makes me the last or one of the last to use it. That was over 30 years ago!!

What a great story. With the words "this guy", and "only what I paid for it", I was expecting the worst. Great story, and a wonderfully beautiful old stove.

Beautiful stove! If it were my brother, he would of sold it to me for a much higher price.

Gerold,
As you said "this stove should heat my shop nicely and warm my heart too." I am sure you will have a warm heart just remembering your Dad, and Brother too, with fondess. Great looking little stove.

Great stove and great story!

You ought to consider having the nickle parts replated in the future (as in the summer when you don't need the stove!)
