Santa, my wife, and my daughter Kathleen combined to give me:

-two Veritas Hold-Down clamps

-a Veritas Large Saddle Square

-a GRR-Ripper GR-200

-a Kreg Profesional Pocket hole kit

I am happy to observe that all these tools are made in either Canada or the USA.

Frank......I got a Powermatic jointer, a Powermatic Bandsaw, a new shop vacuum and a lettering kit from Rockler. Sorry no pictures yet of the shop vac or the lettering kit. I also got four Timberwolf bandsaw blades. The riser kit is in the mail. This is from santa(me) to myself. Like I told my grandson, I don't think santa can find my place. Rod in Appleton, WA

I have used the sander on a couple of small projects and am happy with it. It certainly gets into corners well! But, altogether, I have only used the Deltex sander for about one hour and there has been very little variety in the tasks that I have used it for. So, I don't really think that I have TESTED it.

Frank,

Wife/santa got me a Jet dust collector, but I'm gonna return it and get the one with the canister.

Son and daughter-inlaw and grand daughter got me a gift card from Rockler, probably gonna get a set of chisels with it or some router bits.

I got a MiniMax CU410 Elite combo machine - been drooling and planning for months, and under the tree was a certificate saying that it should clear customs on Monday and be here some time next week.
http://www.plesums.com/wood/CU%20410%20Elite.jpg

I promise a picture of my own machine when it arrives - or maybe a month later when all the cosmoline is off it;) . 8 1/2 foot sliding table with outrigger for the 12 inch saw (with scoring blade) and shaper, plus 16 inch jointer, 16 inch planer, and mortiser. Retirement starts in January, if you can call this retirement :D -- feels more like gone to heaven!

With the expectation that this was coming, I recently picked up a used Steff power feeder for it. Sweet! Already used it to cut some crown mouldings on my router table. It will be nicer with a 5 hp shaper under the power feeder.

Wow, lots of good stuff here.

The last couple of Christmas' we've been in transition. Either moving out or in to a house. As a result, we have been pretty tight at Christmas. So, this year we got a little out of control.
My birthday is also in December, so the gifts sort of run together.

I got:
- Jet 12" Disc sander (benchtop model)
- Veritas LA smoother and HA blade
- Veritas Flat spokeshave
- Infinity rail/stile set with bevel profile
- Veritas bench bolts
- Veritas 24" steel straight edge
- Etymotic ER6 earplug headphones

The disc sander is bigger than I expected (not the disc itself, but the beast as a whole).
The earplug headphones are fantastic with the iPod.

Got cash from my Mom to support my woodworking habit and my mentor and his wife gave me a Lee Valley Scraper Plane. Problem is, it's to cold and snowy to go out in the shop and try it out so I have it sitting on the kitchen table where I can fondle it once in while as I walk by! 6" of snow and coming down like crazy here. The birds knew and told us long before the weatherman even considered this storm!

I've set the press up and adjusted the dies for a few calibers I reload but I haven't really ran many shells through it. I reloaded for many years with a Dillon 550 but I like the LNL better so far.

I did do some wood working beefing up the stand the press is mounted to. It was fine for my simple single stage press and my shotgun shell reloaders but it was flexing a bit with my new press.

Christmas?

It's hard for me to say -- this entire year has been like Christmas for me! Starting back around the first of the year, I began replacing some older items and buying new tools I never had. Call it what you will, with this year being #60 on the birthday scale I was trying to get serious about 'retiring' -- it's really been more like retired as in 're-tired' -- tired all over again!

Beginning with some Jet equipment in January: 10" cabinet saw, 12" disc sander, benchtop spindle sander. (I already had a Jet 6" jointer and Delta 12.5" planer) Miscellaneous smaller items throughout the year, then a Grizzly G0513 17" bandsaw in August for my birthday followed closely by a Grizzly sharpening center. A ton of other items since then like a set of Grip-Tite featherboards; an M12V router is scheduled for delivery on Tuesday. Also to be delivered soon is a branding iron, purchased at SWMBO's insistence.

Anyway, this year Christmas became a little anti-climactic but I did get the requisite cologne and a few other goodies.

Happy Hew Year everyone!!!

Regards,
Amazon/Tool Crib had a sale for about two days a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure how they price things, but what happened is I bought it at $149, but then found out about the $129 price and gave them a call to see if they would honor the lower price.......they did! In any case, I think it's a great buy at $149 or $159 or whatever. Great router.

You were doing well earlier in the year when you bought the PM table saw. But when you started sliding down the electron-challenged slippery slope towards hand planes, it was time for the Kingsford charcoal.

Santa (never met a power tool I didn't like) Claus

Actually, Tyler, perhaps Santa is trying to tell you something with the coal. It may be a loooooong coooooold winter and you might need all the heat you can get.

Not a bad gift when you look at it that way. And even if you don't need it this winter, just think of the great steaks it will make this summer. :D

I like the fact that the LNL is larger and easier to get my very large hands into. It also has automatic indexing (more like the Dillon 650). It compares favorably with the 650 and costs less than the 550. It is slightly cheaper to convert from caliber to caliber than the Dillon also.

That said, if Santa had left me a Dillon reloader I would have been just as happy. My brother and my nephew both have 550's and have been very pleased with them.

I'd like to have a Spolar shotgun reloader but just don't shoot enough Sporting Clays these days to justify the expense or the space in my tiny garage. I have seperate reloaders for 12,20,28, and 410 already but the Spolar is a work of art.

C'mon by, Jon. The garage is shaping up nicely and I'm going to have a pallet load of F arriving between 1-4 tomorrow. I'll need somewhere to store all this stuff...any room in your shop, er, garage?? ;)

BTW, don't spend that Sears cash on anything that has a rechargeable battery (like a drill, flashlight, etc.) because I have bought my first and last Sears cordless drill. The drill is fine but the batteries won't hold a decent charge after only 1 year of use. Maybe sell your Sears card for $225 to someone and put the cash towards some F?? :D

Wow! Some of yall (that there's a southern word) made out pretty nice. As for me I got a few things:

Craftsman Hybrid tablesaw - Christmas pressent but got it about 3 weeks early to take advantage of 30% off.

Ryobi 3 1/4" hand planer kit

Delta 9" benchtop bandsaw - actually a $100 Lowes gift card that I used to get this

A woodworking book and some WW magazines.

Week off from work wiht wife and kids:)

Did not ask for too much this Christmas in the line of tools. Had to pay for wedding for daughter. But the addition of a great new son-in-law is as good a Christmas gift as someone could want.

The one tool I did get was a Ridgid miter saw stand. I got the craftsman sliding compound saw last Christmas and had planned to make a table for it but just could never seem to get around to it. The LOML got tired of me saying I would get to it so she got me the stand. Since it folds up and you can roll it out of the way, it is probably a lot better than what I had in mind to build.

Hope everyone else had a good Christmas and have a good New Year.

I got a bunch of stuff from Lee Valley:

Saddle Square, Dovetail Markers 1:6 & 1:8, Straight Edge, Kelton Handle, Miter Hook, Miter Saddle.

I also got a 3/4 Threader from Beall a Woodcrafter's clearnace item for 1/2 price and a Home Depot $3 deal with a drill hook.

Finally, a nice 11.5 gram 600 chip poker set with case. The case looks really nice, though the drawer fronts will need my TLC as the just pinned them and used hot glue. The first pull and they were off.

But the best present was spending the weekend end with both my parents and my wife's mom.... and enjoying my son's excitement. Oh, BTW, I think I assembled well over 2000 LEGO pieces since he got a bunch of Star Wars stuff including a items with 1100 and 600 pieces.

Anyway, now for my B-day next week.

Sorry, haven't taken any pics yet but my wife and boys surprised me with a DeWalt DW705S compound miter saw, a set of Beall Bowl Buffs, a Ridgid flip-top support stand, and some other small stocking stuffer tools. A little late, but I knew I would have to post a pic:)

This was dropped of for me for Christmas by Dave Anderson and was the one gift my wife let me open on Christmas eve....

Now Dave and I are good friends and both active in our local guild...but this gift from Dave just blew me away...

Many of you know that Dave makes some great tools...great to use and a joy to look at...well, the gift was a set of marking tools in snakewood...

This pic does not do the tools justice, but is the best I can do....

Pic. #1 - I got a tool box to match my slot car track and my golf cart (the cart is not used for golf. At my age, it is kind of an ambulatory convenience :) ), a folding utility knife, an automatic tape measure to retrieve those little nuts, bolts and other things that I am too old to reach and a laser level to try to keep my head straight.

Pic. #2 - A combo sander/finisher that I have been trying to design for years. Unfortunately, she will not be up and running for at least two years. I always said that a two-year old could sand and finish better that I do. History will prove my predictions to be correct! ;)

Pic. #3 - If he can run a QUAD at 16 months, he should be able to take on the "dangerous" operations in the shop in the aforementioned two-year time frame. He gets to run the grinder when it is out of round and needs "trueing". He also gets to run the shaper when we are spinning those 3-4" carbide "fans".

Heh! Heh! My mama didn't raise no fools (except for my only sibling). I know that all of my friends on the "CREEK" do not want me to breathe all of those dangerous sanding dusts or the fumes from those toxic finishes. Neither do you want me to lose an eye from the grinder or a hand from the shaper. ;) :) It's nice to have supportive friends. :D

On the other hand, I think that I may have raised a "fool". If my daughter and the infamous SIL (you know who I mean) allow grandpa to be alone with the grandkids in my shop - well - I can't be held accountable!! :D

I received a "Super Knife" the second generation tool. For those of you not familiar, it is a great little tool. It is a hybrid of a folding pocket knife and a utlity knife with replaceable blades. You can read about it here:
http://www.agrussell.com/knives/by_maker/s_through_z/superknife/superknife_sk2_silver.html

I also received the precision miter gauge from Kreg, ala Mark Duginske who designs some pretty nice tools/fences etc. Nice review done on this gauge by Bill Esposito here:
http://www.onlinetoolreviews.com/reviews/kregmitergauge.htm

Have used the knife quite a bit already opening boxes and extracting all the kids' toys from their industrial shipping containers / 10 gauge wire tethers (if you have younger kids with toys, you KNOW what I mean here  )

Looking forward to using the miter gauge soon.

Happy New Year!

Not wodworking I know but I endeared myself with the missus buying her a robotic pool cleaner. She reciprocated by giving me the go ahead for a Woodpecker router table top, a Hitachi M12v with a plunge lift and the baby of babies, a DeWalt 735 planer. All of whichof coure I love expecially the planer.

Sorry no pictures -- I haven't got around to learning that procedure yet.

All in all a great year which started out with construction of a 30 X 24 extension to my garage for a workshop.

I'm blessed as I hope you all are as well.
