Need to bore a 1/2 inch hole 3 i/2 inches deep in laminated maple with the end grain. What bit should I use to prevent drift?
Thanks

I would use a brad point bit and go slow and also backing the bit out every 1/8" or so. This will help prevent drift. SLOW is the main idea.

I tried the brad point and had problems. I didn't go slow (RPM)b but did retract bit often. Will give it a try.

If you can use a good doweling jig with the above mentioned, it should help.

A forstner bit will also drill this hole true.

Got it done. Slowed the brad point drill speed down and cleaned the bore quite often and it made a difference.
