Been busy turning some of the african sumac logs I picked up. I really love this wood, has all kinds of things going on, color, grain, eyes, etc. never know what's going to pop out. It's also nice to turn and sands and finished great. Most of these are finished in DO I think, the small hollow form was wipe on poly. The "twin" bowls are mirror images from the same piece of branch from either side of the pith.
Bowls are about 4" by 2 1/2", hollow form is about 4" by 2", shallow bowl/plate is about 5" across.

Thanks for looking!

Kathy,

Very nice turnings and I like your inlays. What are you using ....epoxy or CA for your inlays?

Stunning grain pattersn in the wood. Very nicely done!

Kathy, those are some interesting turnings, and I agree with you on the wood - lot of variety in it. Being a pleasure to turn is an added plus.

Kathy, These look great but they're missing what I believe is the best feature of African Sumac. Set these outside in the sun for a day or two on each side and they'll turn a beautiful shade of red. The more sun they get the deeper and darker the red color.

Nicely done, Kathy. I've never seen African sumac, but I won't pass it up now that I know how pretty it can be.

Thank you Ken!
For the inlays I used 2 part epoxy. The hf was my 1st try at inlay and I didn't make the groove deep enough. The bowl was my 2nd try and I did a little better with that one.

Thanks Jason!
I plan on setting them in a sunny window for a few days, just want to make sure the worst of the heat is over with (don't want to cook them ).
I can always tell which of the logs are sumac because the ends have turned red and they really stand out. Just wish I had a larger diameter log, would love to do a 9-10" bowl or platter. Think I have 1 piece that just might yield a 7-8" bowl or platter.

Thanks Cathy!
Once you get started on that piece, you'll love it! Can't remember what size piece I sent, but I hope it's big enough to get something nice out of.

I probably have some in that size range I could spare. I know I have some quite a bit bigger than you're looking for, not sure how much or what size.
