I was out there all day. We should do this every Friday. :D

Howdy everyone,

I went out to the shop this morning and continued movin' stuff around lookin' for the best fit and trying to decide just exactly how many Neander goodies I could cram into the plane drawer. I would say 'bout this much.....

The insert is just sitting in the drawer just in case I need to do something different later. I stained it to match the bench.

I rabbeted some blocks to hold the LV straight edge and the file for the scrapers to the drawer itself.

One thing that was drivin' me crazier than usual was the scrapers. I had a hard time figgerin' how to keep them captured. I ended up building this little box to hold them.

This was a very fun project!! I'm really glad to have somewhere to store my planes and such. Now, if my other 2 planes would get here I could really pronounce this project to be done.

I hope there were many others here that got to steal some time in the shop today!!! Thanks for looking and everyone have a good Christmas!!!

Looks like you're havin' fun. I was goin' to go into the shop this afternoon, after helpin' LOML get the house ready for tomorrow. I'm wiping down the shower/tub and move the curtain out of the way ......hit something ............. hear porcelain hit the floor. Oops, broke a decorative piece off the end of a towel rack. "Crap", really need that! What's that I see .................. blood. Hmmm where's that from. OhOh ............ ME!

Sliced the heal of my right hand and wrist. No, I wasn't trying to commit suiside!

One hour and 8 stitches later, I'm back. Dr said,"no shop time for 10 days." Glad I got all the Christmas Things done.

Guess I'll be "relaxin'" for a while.

What's crazy is that "All the dangerous stuff" is in the basement in my shop!

Have a Happy Holiday Season, all.

Was in and out of shop most of the day. In between gluing up and milling parts for a Roll top desk that I'm building for the LOML, I built the tool oiler. http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=15077
All in all it was a great day.

Yep - all day. And, I completed my bow saw project too. Curly maple, ebony, brass and an 18th century gunstock type finish that gives it the same aged appearance as an old flintlock. ;)

I have always been unhappy how the winder just laid against the spreader so I carved one out of ebony and mortised a slot in the top of the spreader for it to park in. A groove near the top of the winder captured the wound string and holds the tapered foot of the winder snugly down in the mortise.

More details on my web site page :D

Jerry, that bowsaw is a work of art!

I agree with you about the spreader... Yours is an elegant solution!

Thanks Rick. I intended it to be functional art when I started it. Our ancestors applied good form and eligance to almost everything they made. I have come across very few impliments/tool of craftsmen prior to the industrial revolution that were not very well designed and crafted. Almost every master was an artist of some medium so his equipment reflected his work. I'm making one more saw for my kit and I'll post it when done.

Jerry

PS, .....besides there are few thing in life as satisfying as having a good plan come together nicly and work well :D

LOL....not soon John. I have GOT to get a couple of projects finished. I'm in the middle of a new plywood storage rack, 2 end tables and the grandfather clock for LOML. I better get these done before any new adventures even though I would LOVE to try my had at making a saw when I get the time.
