Four poster bed, any body care to give a little design guidance?

Hello all I have a request for a custom four poster bed from a client and was wondering if anyone here has tackled one of these and is familiar with getting proper proportions etc?

He sent me a pic of something he likes and I am trying to work through a post/headboard design that is unique for him from me. I want it to flow well......
