I built a vanity for my mother that was 54-1/2" long and 17" deep.http://www.home.earthlink.net/~us71na/vanity.jpg

I can send you my dimensioned drawing if that helps.

Brian

I'm building one now that is a bowfront design. It's 40" wide and 27" deep. With a granite top and drop in sink.
Taunton Press has some really good books on cabinet construction.

There are many folks here on the board that do this work for a living. ( Not me though ) I'm fairly certain that any question you woiuld have they can answer.

Just about any reasonably good book that deals with cabinets, will be a big help. One thing to remember when doing bathroom vanities, is that you'll need to cut some big holes in whatever back you use -- some makers have mounting strips but no back for this reason.

Hi Brian, The best book I've read is Jim Tolpin's Building Traditional Kitchen Cabinets (http://www.amazon.com/Building-Traditional-Kitchen-Cabinets-Tolpin/dp/1561580589). Granted you are building a bathroom vanity but the techniques are the same. I read this book over 15 yrs ago and have since built several kitchens and more vanities. Jim takes you through step by step and makes a daunting task like building a kitchen seem very manageable. There are gads of great tips and jigs in there. Jigs that I still use today.
I designed and fabricated this cherry and maple vanity 5 years ago using the techniques Tolpin discusses in the book.

Most store bought bathroom vanitys range from 18-21 inches deep plus the face frame. If yours is going to be 15'' deep over all I make sure you can find the sink you want before you start building.

Good point, I almost forgot that we had to use a "bar" sink for my mothers vanity to fit in the reduced depth. It was a rectangular sink that had the faucets mounted in one corner.
