I have made the Keepsake Steamer Trunk ( American Woodworker, Issue # 149, Aug/Sept 2010).
I have not undertaken the Hot Pipe Bending for the strapping, and am a little hesitant to try it.
Has anyone had any experience of making a trunk and using Leather for the strapping? It appears to me that that would be an easier way to apply the strapping.
Another question I would have is if leather is used, would you apply a finish on the leather. I am kind of leaning towards a Shellac finish on the trunk.
