Well, at least one of them. :D

Howdy everyone,

Stole a little shoptime today to arrange the plane drawer a bit. I also got 2 more ebayers in the mail today. A super nice type 18 #6 in the box (gave box to wifey for her collection) and a type 16 #3 also near mint. The LV LA block came a couple of days ago. Here they are with Robin's #4 and #5. The group takes a pretty nice picture. :)

Matthew Dworman showed me a pic of his storage. I really liked the simple clean look of it and I have transfered much the same thing into my newly dubbed "plane drawer". Everything is just laying in the drawer for now. I'll screw the dividers to the base when I get the rest of the goodies in there and arrranged just right.

I know, I know...the Record looks like a step child amounst these Stanley's. :D

I have a couple more coming...yet another near mint #5 from the bay and the LV LA Jack (HA blade is already in the drawer) so those account for the holes with no occupants. I made some rabbeted blocks to hold my LV 24" straight edge on the rear of the drawer itself.

I decided to store my bench accessories in this drawer also as one kinda leads to the other.

<IMG SRC="http://www.terryhatfield.com/pd4.JPG">

I cut some little spacers for the heels of the #3 and #4 so the totes would not be against the divider.

<IMG SRC="http://www.terryhatfield.com/pd1.JPG">

The #6 barely fits in this drawer so I guess I'll never need a #7 or #8...lol...ya right!! I notched the front divider to fit the toe.

Anyhow, pardon my newbie excitement again but this plane deal is pretty cool. Where is the bottom of this darn slope anyway??? :eek: I think I'm about to find it, for a while at least. I had saved money to buy a PM stationary mortiser but I seem to have blown it all on planes and such like Neander stuff. :) I have a bench top Delta mortiser anyway so I think I'd rather have the planes.

Ya'll have a Merry Christmas!!!

Looks to me like someone is *already* having a Merry Christmas!:D Nice selection you have going there, Terry! Yeah, don't know where the heck this here slope ends. Years and years ago, I used to do a little downhill skiing and there was *always* a bottom of the slope, but this is getting ridiculous!:eek: Enjoy your new toyls!:)

BTW, how do you like that Delta benchtop mortiser? And, what brand of drill/chisels do you use on it?:cool:

j,

I have the old style one with the stock chisels.

I works OK but I wouldn't rate it any higher than just OK. I really wanted the big PM mortiser but then the plane deal came along and thus I will make due with the less than great Delta. It has drilled every mortise I have made so it's not that it won't work, it's just slow going because of lack of power. I do sharpen the chisels regularly and that makes an huge difference!! I have the LV little cone thingies to do the chisel part. I hone the drill bit with a small diamond stone I got for router bits.

I know some Neander type is going to tell me to chop the dang mortises by hand but I'll probably stick to the mortiser. :D At least my mortises are somewhere close to the right size and shape if I use the Delta. No tellin' what they might look like if'n I tried it by hand. :eek:

John,

Thanks for all your suggestions and help with the storage deal. Using the drawer in the bench was the right way to go for sure.

Read response to John for mortiser details.

Terry,
You're just getting started, we haven't got you going with Stanley Everlasting chisels, and Diston Saws yet. LOL. Meantime you've got to teach yourself how to do handcut dovetails, both thru and half blind. Then it gets serious......

Terry,

A stabilizer on my boom truck broke under the strain of 15,000lbs. No one hurt, and believe it or not, not too much damage to the truck.
