I'm probably missing the obvious in how to accomplish this, but have tried in Corel for hours and can't figure it out.

I am trying to create an ornament that will be about 1/4" wide, uniformly, on the outside edge. The inside of the ornament should be "blank": where the material has been cut away.

Creating a duplicate object, reducing size and re-centering obviously doesn't work (attached). Can anyone help me accomplish this?
Thanks!!

Bonnie,

Have you tried the Contour tool?

Thats a tough one. I tried the contour tool and creating a boundary. Neither works and I surmise it is because you have areas in the graphic that are much less than .25 subsequently not allowing the offset? I would also be interested to see the solution to this if there is one.

It's going to take a bit of cleanup afterwards, but you can change the line width, convert outline to object and then edit. You'll have to enlarge it quite a bit to make the outline conform to the shape, but it will work.

Bonnie,

I don't know if this it what you wanted, but creating a outline that is 1/4" away was a not easy in Corel :D

YES..I think that would work. Still a little tricky though.

Try it =)
It didn't work for me in Corel 12 or 14.

Where is the interactive contour tool. I have a boundary tool and the usual contour box on X5.

- I have used the contour docker for a long time but never the interactive tool. The two work completely different. The interactive tool worked perfectly for me, X5, and made an even contour quite easy. Thanks for pointing out this "new" feature.
